As you may have noticed, this is not a commercial blog. There are no little Google ads suggesting you buy this or that. Occasionally, I'll put on a public service type thing advising about some event of interest to the community. Rarely, I will suggest you contribute to some worthy cause, as to the fund for Sukhvir Singh's medical expenses.

Only once have I suggested you actually go out - or rather, stay in - and buy something.

The main purpose of this blog is to educate people, Sikh and nonSikh both, about the events of 1984, especially the genocide - pogrom - massacre - battle in Delhi in early November, 1984. Although many other topics have been covered, this remains my/our Number One objective.

This movie is a relatively painless way to accomplish this.

Perhaps, like me, you didn't want to see it in public. I had no idea how I would react and don't care to expose myself to the eyes of strangers. But now, you can watch it at home, alone or with family and friends.

Please buy it, watch it, share it. Buy a couple copies to give as gifts. India doesn't want to world to even know this happened. If the story is to be told, we have to do it ourselves. I am, of course, doing this on my own. The producers have not asked me to advertise this. And I do not receive - and would not accept, if offered - any compensation from anyone.

It would be really nice if you told me you bought it. Otherwise I have the feeling I'm just an unheralded voice in the blogosphere.

This post, for now, is just from Mai. I wanted to post this at once and am unable to get ahold of Suni and Maman (Vini),

DEAR BELOVED SANGAT JI,

This letter came to the Gurbani Learning Zone, a Yahoo! Group of which I am a member. Reading it, I ask myself, do we really want the world to know what happened to us in 1984, or do we want to just sit and whine amongst ourselves? I am sorry to sound harsh, but I am seriously annoyed. We need to get behind this movie and be heard!

Here is one simple, concrete, and, may I add, inexpensive, way to show support and get the word out. A ten dollar ticket? If every reader of this blog purchased just one,...but I have no idea how many read this blog, a few, at least.

It would be a drop in the proverbial bucket, but a drop is still a drop. Please help!!

The film AMU needs our help. The community has not come out and shown its
support and the opening of AMU in other cities is in jeopardy.

A way to show your support - even if you are not in Manhattan.

This letter appeared in our in boxes a few minutes ago. I would like to encourage anyone in the New York City area who is able to, please make the effort to go to see this movie on the weekend of May 25. I have read quite a bit about it around the Net, all positive.

'One picture is worth a thousand words' and one movie worth a million, if people actually see it.

I received an email last week where a reader of this blog, a young Indian, who told me that before reading this blog, he only knew that 'some sardars were killed.' Here is a chance to put our story before the world, to be heard and seen and, who knows, maybe understood.

Please, if you can, go to AMU during its opening weekend.

LETTER FROM BEDABRATA PAIN, PRODUCER

I wanted to introduce myself - my name is Bedabrata Pain (Bedo). I am the
producer of the film called AMU, directed by my wife Shonali Bose. AMU is based
on the 1984 carnage in Delhi. AMU is a product of long years of fight for
justice. What happened in November 1984 was nothing but an act of State
Terrorism - where every single branch of Indian state was involved either in
acts of commission and omission.

AMU will be releasing theatrically in NY on May
25.

I saw on your blogsite that your family was victim of this event. My
condolences with you, and even more my support for your struggles.The genocide
in 1984 certainly set the stage for similar acts of state terrorism to happen
all over India with impunity, but the events of 1984 to this date remain outside
popular consciousness - both in India and the world. And so long events like
this remain hidden, everybody remains vulnerable to this cycle of violence by
the state.

Having carried out protest marches and vigils, having written pamphlets and
leaflets, it has become clear to us that there is no medium larger than a film
to bring this issue to the attention of the world. At least, it gives us a
platform to talk about the issue, which otherwise remains absent. As an
independent film, we rely upon the word of mouth and power of the Internet to
spread the word about this. Additionally, if people
don't come to the theaters in the opening weekend and the theaters aren't full -
the theaters won't keep us running. So,it is extremely important to bring people
to the theaters on the opening weekend itself.

Your assistance in this matter will be greatly appreciated.
