  3. Although I've gotten quite used to seeing such gruesome images in the media, I wonder why I still shudder every time I see them! And I wonder what can possibly motivate a common man to commit such bloody acts. I've heard that people can do such stuff in moments of anger, and then they break out of their anger spell the moment they see the blood. But this kind of stuff really shakes my faith in human nature.

And I wonder how the families of the innocent murdered ones manage to survive with these images. God knows how I'd react if one of my siblings or loved ones ended up looking like those in the images above. It would drive me insane.

  4. H. Maryam Ji,

I see the complete calm on their faces. I am one of the family members of these innocent murdered ones. I saw my husband and son like that and I did go crazy for a time. Eventually I came to accept that they died the best possible deaths as shaheeds and Khalsa. The Sikh belief that everything that happens in the Hukam of Vaheguru (Will of God) also sustains me. We Sikhs are called on to do the seemingly impossible, to remain in chardi kala through all this. It is possible. Not easy. Just possible.

If their murder shakes your faith in human nature, perhaps the fact that they chose to die rather than renounce their deepest beliefs will restore it. We all have terrible evil hidden in us, but we also have tremendous good. It is for us to choose, in every circumstance.

Smile, dear sister, and keep smiling through it all.
